Whitley Bay 08th March Vipers played Whitley Bay on Sunday at Nottingham. A much more clean game than
the previous encounter several weeks ago, and a much closer affair. The game was
overshadowed, however, by the X-factor Live show that was taking place next door.
Apparently, they weren't too impressed with what they saw, and are not inviting us
back to do the pre-show warm up!
In all honesty, it was not the best game to watch. Perhaps the presence of the famous
XRS/SLX/SLS/XLS (I have no idea, I can't remember) put us off our game. However, we did
have some vocal talents on show, as Anna really did scream very loudly, as she could
hear people saying 'banjo' and 'barn door' as soon as she took her shot. Anna wasn't
the only one who was off target...it was almost contageous. However, thankfully, a solid
performance from each and every Defensive player, and backed up by Ally led her to yet another
shut-out.
The forwards did manage to find the net 5 times - with Jeni getting 2 of the 5, and another
good performance. However, with some outstanding defensive plays, it was Laura Quarton
who took home the Man of the Match award. In the post-match interviews,
Assistant Coach Bernadette Bailey stated that she was very pleased with the fact
that no penalties were taken by vipers throughout the whole game, but was slightly
disappointed that we were not to be able to convert on the few power play chances we had.
Coach Romek was unavailable for interview...he was busy autograph hunting the boys from
HMV!
The win seals a guaranteed second place finish in the D1 North League. However, with
a match still to be played against Sheffield, there is still 1 big game to be played
this season!
