Well done girls, everyone on the team played very well in our opening game against Solihull on Sunday 17th September. This game was always going to be a difficult one with some of our senior players missing, but the more experienced along with our rookie players both stepped up their game and came away with a confidence building game under their belts, though the scoreline was not representative of the actual game.

Vipers held their own in the first period only conceding two goals both scored by Katie Henry. We worked hard and were able to create good scoring opportunities on the night putting pressure on Solihull’s defence and goaltender. Vipers played all players throughout the match giving new players an opportunity to play at a much higher level than they had played before, and they did not let the team down. In the second, we lost Anna temporarily with a skate problem but she was soon back and she scored a superb goal assisted by Jodie Bloom and Emma French. Solihull came back with two goals, again from Katie Henry and Deb Warwick to finish the period 4-1.

Vipers never gave up and came out strong in the third against a more tired Solihul and held the period 0-0 until the last part of the match when Solihull scored a further two goals again from Katie finishing off with her fifth goal and the final goal from Kirsty Venus, leaving the final score 7-1 to Solihull. Player of the match for Vipers was Anna Cooper and Solihull Deberah Warwick. Vipers three star award went to Alison, second went to Kelly and the first going to Claire. Well done.

Vipers travel away to Bracknell on Saturday and Sheffield on Sunday for their next two league games.
