Vipers clearly had a good Christmas, if the poor performance was a reflection of some over-indulgence. The Kingston B team came to the NIC, along with a few of their better Under 18 players. A slow start for the Vipers led to Kingston scoring off the first face-off. Although the score remained close, thanks to 3 goals from the forward combination of Julia, Cookie and Frenchie, and the game competitive, it was to be the Kingston side who would come out on top.

Not everyone played badly. After the game, the coach had praise specifically for 2 of his players. Firstly praise went to Jo Plastow, who has been playing hockey at Nottingham for a number of years. She announced her retirement from hockey in the dressing room before the game. Jason Scott whilst relaying this information to the press, clearly became quite emotional and choked up, resorting to wiping his eyes with a handkerchief on at least one occassion. He also commented on a great performance by Jade Cito. He said that Jade's performance was a great leap and improvement, and he was truly dazzled by her composure. His praise of this player was backed-up by the coaches of the GB Under 18 women's team, who have also confirmed Jade's selection this week. Congratulations!

I could write more on the game, and the specifics. But, I don't want to. We are to play Kingston once more this season, and the Vipers will be seeking a much improved performance and a win, when they travel to Hull later this season. It was sad to lose and even sadder considering the fairwell performance of one of the senior players of the team.

So, my last thoughts are to Jo. May you achieve greatness in the art of cheerleading, and many thanks for all your hardwork and efforts over the years.
