Flintshire 22nd February

Flintshire on their ice had proved to be a tricky side to play earlier this season; however, Vipers still had managed to come away with the points. So, Vipers at home had a point to prove when they entertained Flintshire this weekend. Still one player short from 3-lines, Vipers played 2 rotating forward and 2 rotating defensive lines.

The first period got off to a promising start, but it was mid-way through the first period when a great pass from Lucy found Anna on the break-away, who managed to place it past the keeper. The lead was doubled shortly later after some good offensive fore-checking lead to a pass from Jade Cito, that was slotted home. That was to be the end of the scoring for the first period.

The second period was again competitve, but with Vipers having some excellent scoring chances. There was some great plays from the defensive pairings, most memorably with Jo Plastow striding upfront at one point to force the keeper into a good save. However, the only goal scored in the second period was from a great strike by Lucy, after some sustained offensive pressure.

Vipers made sure of the win in the final period - the only goal of the period coming from a shot by Ebinger from the point that the keeper couldn't hold, and Hannah putting away the rebound. With Vipers being solid defensively, and sharper around the net than in other games, Vipers managed to end the game 4-0 victors (Ally getting her second consecutive shut-out).

The captain had many candidates for the man-of-the-match performance. In her uncertainty she asked Coach Romek and Julia (still sidelined with injury) for advice on the worthy recipient. This was to prove to be a great mistake as Coach Romek and Julia informed the referee to ignore the captain's decision and give the award to her instead. Anna wasn't happy - even unhappier when she failed to stay on her feet during the presentation - but somehow the award landed upright!!!

Coach Romek had a serious case of hiccups and was unavailable for post-match comments.
