Flintshire 22nd November

Vipers had yet another player in goal for the third game of their season. Alison Clarke was back between the posts, having resigned to Nottingham for the remainder of the season. Without a training session since last season, this was going to prove to be a tough reminder of the game of ice hockey!

Vipers didn't have a good first shift, conceding within minutes of the face-off, and unfortunately the tone was set and continued for much of the first period. A tough talking to was rightly delivered at the first interval, as Vipers found themselves looking at a 4 goal deficit.

A much improved second period allowed Vipers to get back into the game, having reduced it to a one-goal game, with most praise going to Rebecca Cook who showed a lot of determination and pace to finish off her hat-trick. Despite Flintshire having a very short bench, it was Vipers who looked tired in the third period, having expended a lot of energy to get back into the game. Vipers managed to score a fourth goal courtesy of Hannah Worthington; however, when Flintshire scored a couple of goals in quick succession, it unfortunately was game-over.

The final score, 4-9, was the first loss of the season for a very disappointed Vipers team. They had not played well and had let Flintshire skate too long with the puck without pressure. The coaches were clearly frustrated by the team's performance, and underlined the necessity of a lot of hard work at training and more agression needed during the game to address some of the major areas of concern. There is a lot to learn, but the season is far from over. Lets hope they can take this game and learn from it when they face their next opponents, Kingston, just after Christmas.
