Blackburn 03rd January
Vipers first game of 2009,
Found them facing-off in Blackburn,
But not quite on time.
Had the X-mas season taken its toll?
Would the score reflect all the mince pies,
And chocolate log rolls?
A Saturday fixutre, an unusual thing!
The ice may have been poor,
but the fans still did sing.
The ice was rutty and the knees did hurt.
Chances came a plenty,
but Vipers couldn't convert.
Blackburn, however, was to be no easy game
And at the end of the first
They scored 1 and our attack they had tamed!
If the Man of Match had been picked at this time.
Some outstanding play by Jade,
Would have earned her this prize.
A defensive slip-up at the start of the second
Meant the Vipers were 2 zip down
And were looking to the heavens.
But the heads did not drop and spirit was showed,
Anna thought she had pulled 1 back,
Only it was disallowed!
Yet heads were still high, the play was controlled
And Lucy (playing upfront for the day)
Scored the first of her goals!
The pressure was mounting on their defence
Suddenly a 2-2 hockey game
As vipers finally took their chance.
And then came our Lucy, almost inspired.
She got behind their defensive,
And her hat-trick was fired.
Bringing the number 5 to Vipers tally
The coach was agasp
With they way they had rallied.
The only other scoring came off poor Ali's head
A 3-5 score line,
and 2 points can be read.
Not a pretty game, but a win with a fight.
Happy New Year to you all,
And to all a good night!
