The game against a short-benched Blackburn, proved to be a challenging game, and was certainly not given to us on a plate! Blackburn managed to get two cookies in the cookie jar within the first nine minutes, and so the Vipers were given a big wake-up call of what they needed to do in order to bag the vital two points. After a lovely pass in front of the net from Anna, Cookie was able to shoot the biscuit, bagging the team their first goal of the game.
After words from the coaches and bench staff during the period break, the team brought their game to true 'Viper style'; scoring three beautifully taken goals, coming from Lucy, Smithy and Julia. Also during the second period, the team suffered a major blow with the injury of captain, Anna Cooper, whom was taken away to be treated for the elbow injury she sustained during a head-on collision with the boards.
After a boost from the now 4-2 lead, Smithy scored another goal for the team during the third period, bringing the final score to 5-3. Although there was no further scoring by the home team, the game continued to be dominated by the home side. Assists for the goals came from Laura Urquhart, who got two, as did Laura Quarton and the injured Anna Cooper!
It was a good team performance, if not spectacular, which has provided a lot of positives. The team is hoping to build on this and take confidence from it going into today's vital home game against Sheffield. Man of the match went to Lucy Ebinger, who thoroughly deserved it, with her hard work and consistency throughout the game.
